Welcome Colleagues, a memo from the founder
Don’t quit your day job, a simple yet profound statement. The idea behind using it for Workingman’s Bogey comes from rounds I played with my old man, who always reminded me to take the game and life a little less seriously. Whenever I let frustration or anger get the best of me after a bad shot, he would laugh and tell me not to quit my day job, knowing I was never playing for a living as a 20 handicap.
Workingman’s Bogey’s origin also comes from my love of the Grateful Dead (Workingman’s Dead album is one of my all-time favorites) and the nature of my golf game, which includes a majority of bogeys at best. As this snowball started rolling downhill, we became a five-some very quickly. We've spent countless hours together on the course and have always talked about making content and building a brand and community together — well, here we are.
Outside of one of the five of us (Emmer), none of us will ever be remotely close to playing this game competitively for a living. All working in different sales, finance, and real estate careers, we are just like the majority of you — in the endless pursuit of continual improvement within this game we love.
We are your range rats, post-work twilight rounders, and weekend warriors who love our jobs and don’t foresee quitting them anytime soon to chase the dream of playing golf for a living, although it would be a lot cooler if we could.
Welcome to Workingman’s Bogey. We look forward to welcoming you all as our colleagues and getting to know you, as there are a lot of us out there in the world of golf. We are fore the workingman, by the workingman.
And as a final and constant reminder, don’t quit your day job.
Sincerely,
Lightle
